Custom Engines

Stroker 383 Chevy, ready to run

The difference between a “custom engine” and a crate or exchange motor is that the exchange engines are usually a cookie cutter motor done on an assembly line. You only get what they do standard in remanufacturing. Typically these are long blocks without tin or manifolds installed. No oil pan or front cover, no valve covers or intake manifold, no oil pump installed. No upgrades in parts like, camshafts, timing components, compression ratios heavy duty or higher performance pars. Usually the motors are not close to being in balance as the parts are miss-matched and close enough is the rule. The tolerances may only meet minimum standards, if that, and many times housings and surfaces have not been re-machined and parts that should have been replaced are not. You don’t get a choice of internal components used and quite often the mix and match cranks, rods, heads etc. from different motors and years. Quite often some of these parts don’t match up when you go to install accessories, sensors, brackets, manifolds etc. and then you may have a serious problem.

Custom Engine remanufacturing is using your engine block, head, rods, etc. The reusable parts for rebuilding. Tearing down the engine and cleaning all components, inspection, machining and then ordering the appropriate parts to achieve the required results. Weather it is an exact stock replacement engine, a street upgrade with a bigger camshaft, a torque monster stroker for a SUV or marine application or a highly modified engine for street and strip. We also specialize in muscle car era V8’s for the restoration folks. We can do them all.

Many people bring us their project engine blocks and heads from motorcycles, ATV’s, street rods, 4x4’s, or the family grocery getter. We can do all the machine work, get the engine kits and parts needed and have a package ready for a customer to put it all together.

Now with our new tool rental program available we have everything you need if you want to put the project together yourself. From Engine cranes, stands, torque wrenches, socket sets, measuring tools, and other specialty tools to help you get that project finished.

For those of you who don’t have the place or time to work on your project we have our NAPA Auto Care Center where that motor or cylinder head would be pulled out and rebuilt in house by our experienced ASE trained shop mechanics and our engine shop machinist, ready to rock and roll for you.
